Open World Chess ("the game", "we", "us") is an online multiplayer chess strategy game at openworldchess.com. This policy explains what information we collect when you play, why, and the choices you have. We collect only what the game needs to run, and we don't sell your information.

1. Information we collect

WhatWhenWhy
Your player nameWhen you start playingTo show your empire to other players. Names are public.
Game data: your pieces, buildings, battles, moves, rating, progress, titles and purchases in the gameAs you playTo run the game. Much of it is visible to other players as part of the shared world.
Google account details: your Google account ID and email addressOnly if you choose "Sign in with Google"To save your empire to your account so you can return on any device. We don't receive your Google password or contacts.
An anonymous visit ID stored in your browser, and where your visit came from (for example, a TikTok link)When you open the siteTo count visitors and returning visitors, and to see which of our posts bring people in. It's a random ID, not linked to your name or account, and it's counted by us alone.
A game token stored in your browserWhen you start playingTo reconnect you to your empire. We also store your settings (such as sound volume) in your browser.
Your IP addressWhen you connectTo keep the game fair and working: limiting how many new empires can be made from one place, preventing abuse, and routing traffic.
Purchase records: which pack you bought and a payment referenceOnly if you buy CrownsTo credit your purchase. Payments are handled by Stripe (see section 4). We never see or store your card number.

If you connect TikTok, we also receive the TikTok profile details described in section 4.

We do not use advertising trackers, third-party analytics services or third-party cookies. Our own usage counts (visits, players online, how far people get in the game) are kept on our server and are never sold or shared.

2. How we use it

We don't sell or rent your personal information, and we don't use it for advertising.

3. Guests and signed-in players

You can play as a guest without giving us any personal information beyond a player name. A guest's empire is removed about 15 minutes after the guest leaves, and their name becomes available again. If you sign in with Google, your empire is kept until you ask us to delete it.

4. Services we rely on

5. Other players, and AI players

The world is shared: other players can see your name, your pieces and buildings, your battles and the moves played in them. Some players in the world are computer-controlled, and camps of creatures in the wilds are run by the game.

6. How long we keep information

7. Your choices and rights

You can ask us to access, correct or delete the information we hold about you, or to delete your account and empire. Depending on where you live (for example, in the European Union, the United Kingdom or California), you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR and the CCPA, including the right to object to or restrict processing and to complain to a data protection authority. We'll respond to requests within 30 days.

To make a request or ask a question, email openworldchessgame@gmail.com.

8. Children

The game is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.

9. Security

Connections to the game are encrypted (HTTPS), payment details are handled only by Stripe, and access to our servers is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.

10. Changes to this policy

See also our Terms of Service. If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. For significant changes, we'll let players know in the game.
